Coale caught 60 passes for 904 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Hokies.
At the scouting combine in Indy, Coale said he visited with the Cowboys, meeting with Jason Garrett, passing game coordinator John Garrett and wide receiver coach/assistant head coach Jimmy Robinson.
In the conference call Saturday with the Dallas-Fort Worth media, Coale was asked about his willingness to play in the slot and go over the middle.
"I do like going over the middle. At Virginia Tech, I was able to play both inside and outside in our system, and I really liked both," Coale said. "I always challenged myself to make those tough catches over the middle. I really enjoy playing from the middle of the field, seeing it from the slot."
The Cowboys have the starters set at receiver in Dez Bryant and Miles Austin, but it seems up in the air after that. Players such as Kevin Ogletree, Dwayne Harris, Ramon Radway and Andre Holmes all figure into the mix.
