So it did Saturday night in the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
It wasn't the wind at Texas Motor Speedway that affected Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s night as much as the experimental setup his team used. Junior finished 10th Saturday. (AP Photo)The Hendrick Motorsports team, which entered the day second in the Cup standings, ran an experimental setup.
“The setup we ran tonight we’ve never ran before,” Earnhardt said after a 10th-place finish. “It’s extremely unique compared to what we typically run at this place, and we didn’t fare as well as our teammates, who were on the standard things that we normally run.”
Earnhardt was disappointed in the 10th-place finish because he felt he might have run better with a traditional setup. He was fourth among the four Hendrick drivers.
“We’ll probably kind of go back and work on what’s been working,” he said. “We’ll have to test it somewhere and work on it some more and see if it’s got any promise, but we’re just trying to get better and trying to get to where we can win races and you’ve got to go out and try things and do things."
