Jimmie Johnson’s late trouble spoils another chance for Hendrick’s 200th
With 90 victories in the past nine seasons, it would seem that the 200th Cup victory for Hendrick Motorsports would come just like many of those wins—things would just fall into place and one of its teams would once again produce a flawless performance.
So when Jimmie Johnson led for more than a 100-lap stretch late Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway, it appeared team owner Rick Hendrick could finally celebrate that 200th victory.
But with Johnson getting held up in lapped traffic, Greg Biffle passed him with 31 laps remaining and never relented as Hendrick lost its 13th opportunity for its 200th win.
“Whenever it happens is going to be very special for the company,” said Johnson, who scraped the wall in the final 10 laps. “I just want to win. I don't care where it is, whatever reason. There's 36 of these (races) a year, and I want to take home a bunch of trophies.
“Second is nice, but winning is everything.”
Johnson left the track frustrated with Ryan Newman, the lapped driver that held him up when Biffle passed him.
